Des Clayton has been collecting wine bottle openers since before he started his 30 plus year career in the wine industry. Being the son of a San Francisco wine merchant his education started early with frequent trips to the Napa Valley. After graduating from Berkeley Des worked his way from cellar door to head of marketing for several leading labels. He has worked in the Napa Valley, France and Australia. His journey has allowed his collection of wine bottle openers to grow to over 300, including several rare antiques from Bordeaux dating pre Napoleon.
This site was created after the realization that scant resource was available on the net in guiding people in choosing the correct tools for wine drinking. The information on this site comes from years of experience and is completely unbiased in all decisions.
Now retired, Des spends his time in San Francisco with his Wife, 4 children and 5 grandchildren. He conducts wine tasting classes for the shear enjoyment of bringing other people to wine, and maybe even the bottle openers.
